Sitting with the 98 Bassmaster champ Denny Brauer, chatting over coffee, he gave me the most insightful look at jig fishing I ever encountered!! SIMPLY, he stated, EVERYTHING MATTERS!! At first I thought that was somewhat condescending! Turns out it was spot on! There is more to the punchline “THROW THE JIG” than most will ever realize. Denny instilled in me a desire to become more dedicated to and more curious about Jig fishing than ever!!! Nothing is SIMPLE!!! So….. the stealth Series is one part of my quest to evolve the jig into a multipurpose weapon. Stealth is a mindset! Quite, precise, natural, still there is so much more to consider. But as jig designers we have limitations. Materials, methods, costs, and production times may override a particular goal! STILL, what’s been achieved is a step up from what you may have experienced! LETS BEGIN . In 98 the ORIGINAL SERIES was born. Designed to represent Sculpins, Small Bullheads, and yes Gobies!!! The quest lead to ultra fine cut flat living rubber that flares on the pause like the over sized pectoral fins of those species. Also natural flat colors with subtle highlights became essential. It took a while to find the ideal head and hook combination, but when it came together it became an essential part of many of my tournament victories!!! When thinking of those species, visualize how they move, quick short darting moves, tight to the bottom, very subtle tail movements. Color matched trailers with bulky bodies and subtle tails in the 21\/2-31\/2 are ideal. Small swim baits or over sized ring worms with small sickle tails, small grubs also could work, nothing too dramatic, flat cut the front of the trailer to assist the flair, secure with a drop of superglue!!
